“I cannot accept that the Lord, who gave knowledge, emotions, and reason to men, says that man should not use it.” The verse was uttered about 500 years ago.One of the eight planets is the Earth, the Earth we live on, the Moon orbits our Earth, and the Earth revolves around the Sun. But until about five hundred years ago, the world was counting on the sun and the moon to revolve around the earth. We are going to find out about someone who bravely told the truth that it is wrong and that all the planets revolve around the sun. Galileo Galilei was the first astronomer to tell the world what the true structure of the universe was.

Galilee died in Pisa, Italy, on February 15, 1564. He is the eldest of 6 children. His family enjoyed a high status in the community. His family, however, was not a wealthy family. From an early age Galilei was seen as extremely intelligent and capable of deep thinking. He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Pisa at the age of 17.He was the student who asked the most questions at the university at the time. To accept all the scientific ideas taught by the teacher as taught by other students, Galileo alone would ask what the evidence was.For example, it has been taught that when two objects of different weights are dropped from a height towards the ground, the heavier object will reach the ground first and the lower weight object later. He asked for proof. The teacher brought two objects of different weights and put them down to allay his suspicions.Galileo refused to accept Aristotle’s views, believing that universities had to prove it if science was to be accepted. As a result, Galileo became angry with his teachers. After graduation, at the age of 25, he joined the same university as a professor of mathematics.

Galileo decided to do what he could not do as a teacher when he was a student and wanted to realize that Aristotle’s claim was wrong. He summoned several spectators and told them to climb to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and drop two metal bombs of two different weights onto the ground at the same time.No matter how many times he did, both bombs landed equally on the ground at the same time. Do you know what the people there said when they saw with their own eyes the truth of a simple science? They refused to accept Galileo’s claim that he was a sorcerer, saying that it was a ploy and that it was against the law of nature.Galileo was then unable to continue his teaching career at the University of Pisa, and later joined the University of Padua as a lecturer. Was more interested in astronomy.Galileo developed the world’s first telescope in 1609, and then began exploring the universe daily. As a result he discovered many miraculous discoveries in the universe. He first discovered that Saturn had a ring around it. Then Jupiter orbited four planets. He discovered that Jupiter had four moons.
Galileo also discovered black spots in the sun. He wondered what the black dots were … and then thought that they must be planets orbiting the sun. Galileo thus confirmed his idea that all the planets revolved around the sun.Although it was Copernicus’ own idea, it was Galileo who discovered the evidence. Although some people agree with this view, many conservatives who lived with the lofty idea that questioning is a great thing have expressed various objections to it.The Christian community opposed Galileo, claiming that it was positive for the Bible. The Roman Catholic Church built many titles on Galileo as atheist and sorcerer. Churches were omnipotent at that time. The ruling monarchy and the ruling power of the country belonged to the churches. In 1615 Galileo published a book. In it, he stated his findings and his view that the earth and many planets revolve around the sun centered on the sun. As a result, church officials arrested him for allegedly acting against the Holy See.Galileo was persecuted for admitting that his views were false. Realizing that his life was in danger, Galileo accepted that his claim was false in no other way. Galileo then emigrated to France, where he continued his research.

Galileo became increasingly optimistic that the earth would revolve around the sun as the years went by. In 1632 he published another book with the permission of the authorities in the city of Florence.Rome arrests Galileo a second time for allegedly insulting the church Galileo is under house arrest. At that time he was 68. Galileo spent 10 years under house arrest. Then in 1642, at the age of 78, he left this world and went to heaven. After his death his book circulated throughout Europe. After that, the book, which contained many of his researches, opened the eyes of the conservatives. The world proudly calls Galileo the ‘Father of Astronomy’. We do not have to accept what everyone says to be true as they say.If in doubt ask boldly and say if there is any error in it. This world will lead those who, like Galileo, to ask many questions boldly, to those who strive to discover new realities, and to those who work with confidence and perseverance to achieve his goal.
