Harvey realized that avalanches prove that blood flows in only one direction. Next he predicted that two ounces of blood would come out of it every time the heart beat. The heart beats approximately 72 times per minute. That is, 144 ounces per 60 seconds (a) of 540 pounds of blood per 60 minutes must leave the heart.But, 540 pounds is much higher than the average human weight. Therefore, he assumed that the blood flowed from the heart and traveled in the same direction throughout the body and then re-entered the heart and flowed again.
